Neighborhood Lighting Evaluation - Your Feedback Needed!

There has been much discussion among the board and neighbors concerning the new lamppost lighting that was installed earlier this year.  In response to this, we have found several alternative lighting solutions and have moved forward with purchasing several test bulbs for evaluation by all; we want your feedback!  The test bulbs have been installed over the past couple of weeks and are available for evaluation by all.  Types/locations are:

1.  Block of 11300 Silentwood Lane (first block on the left coming from Whisperwood):  40W Halogen Lamps, 2 per post, expected life 3,000 hours.  Less expensive bulb, but more frequent replacement.

2.  Block of 11240 Silentwood Lane (last block on the left before the Reston path coming from Whisperwood):  3.5W LED Lamps (25W equivalent), 2 per post, expected life 25,000 hours, more expensive bulb, but significant energy savings.

3.  Block of 11203 Silentwood Lane (last block on the right, past the small parking area): 5W LED Lamps (40W equivalent), 2 per post, expected life 25,0000 hours, same bulb as area 2 except brighter.

The map below marks them as well.  Take a look at these areas of the neighborhood and let us know what you think via email (  Make sure to put LIGHTING EVAL in the subject, and identify area 1, 2, or 3 as your preference.  We will be taking comments until the end of January (1/31/2014), after which the results will be counted and published on our web site and on Facebook.  We will also let you know when the rest of the neighborhood will be equipped with the new lights. We look forward to hearing from you!
